BNP trashes press note as false, fabricated

Fakhhuman
Dhaka, Mar 14 (UNB) – BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday claimed that the press note issued by the Home Ministry was ‘totally false’ as it referred to an incident that took place in 2004.

“This press note is absolutely false. It’s unwanted as well since it referred to an incident of 2004. It should have been issued based on the current incidents only,” he said.

The BNP spokesman made the remarks while addressing a human-chain programme organised by Bangladesh Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad in front of the National Press Club in the city.

They arranged the programme demanding unconditional release of BNP’s central leaders and activists, including its chairperson’s adviser Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.

Earlier, on Wednesday night, the Home Ministry issued a press note following Khaleda Zia’s Wednesday’s speech over police raid on BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.

According to the press note, police had also entered the then opposition Awami League’s Bangabandhu Avenue office breaking the locks and damaged important documents on March 1, 2004.

Dismissing the press note claim that crude bombs were exploded on Monday at a rally of the BNP just after the announcement of the hartal programme, Fakhrul said, “While I was addressing the rally as its last speaker, crude bombs were exploded in front of Scout Building where the police personnel were standing. After the explosions, they attacked the rally and foiled it. Then we took the decision and called the hartal for Tuesday.”

Fakhrul went on: “There was no crude bomb at BNP’s central office. Any party that believes in democracy can’t keep crude bombs in its office. We deeply condemned it as the government did it breaking all the democratic norms.”

The BNP acting secretary general alleged that the government has started the politics of dividing the pro-liberation forces and Islam having failed to run the state.

“Now, the government is conspiring to divide the religious Muslims and the pro-liberation forces. Don’t play with fire… we want to clearly warn the government. This division might pose a threat to the national security.”

He also demanded immediate unconditional release of all the BNP leaders and activities and withdrawal of false cases against them.
