BNP threatens mass upsurge against govt

BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has warned that a mass upsurge will be staged against the current regime very soon if it keeps on ignoring their party’s demand for a fresh inclusive election through meaningful talks.

“People are on a movement despite repressive acts, killing and various plots. A mass upsurge is imminent against the current illegal regime. No evil design will work,” he said on Tuesday.

The BNP leader came up with the remarks while addressing a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.

Rizvi also accused the government of creating a smoke scene over a political dialogue with them for holding a fresh inclusive election. “It won’t be possible to disregard our demand for a fresh election by resorting to a ploy.”

He demanded the Prime Minister quit immediately paving the path for a free, fair and credible election. “Sheikh Hasina must quit forthwith. Or else, we’ll intensify our movement to oust her.”

Rizvi said though they are repeatedly calling for a dialogue in the interest of the country and democracy, the government is not paying heed to it as they cannot realise the pulse of people.

He urged the government to step aside and hold a fresh election through talks for the sake of the country and its people.
