The party accuses Awami League general secretary’s nephew of leading the attack

The BNP said the party Standing Committee member Moudud Ahmed’s motorcade was showered with crude bombs by Awami League men in Noakhali, injuring five BNP activists.

At least 25-30 bombs were hurled at Moudud’s car in the Companiganj upazila’s Bamnibazar on Tuesday morning by a group led by Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader’s nephew Rimon, Moudud’s Personal Secretary Mominur Rahman Sujan told reporters.

However, police are saying no such incident took place.

He said the injured BNP activists were Swapan, Naimul Islam, Md Mintu, Abdullah and Mamun. The injured had been admitted to various hospitals, he said.

Sujan said Moudud went to pay respects at the graves of several BNP leaders around the area.

“At that time around 50-60 Awami League activists led by Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader’s nephew Rimon threw at least 25-30 crude bombs at his car,” he added.

“Five BNP activists were injured in the attack.”

Rampur Union BNP General Secretary Belayet Hossain Belal said the Awami League men organized and attacked when they heard Moudud Ahmed would visit the graves of fallen party leaders.

On the other hand Noakhali district Awami League Organizing Secretary and Companiganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal told the Dhaka Tribune no one from his party had carried out any bombing.

Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Asaduzzaman said there were no bomb explosions in Bamni Bazar while Moudud Ahmed visited the area.
