BNP plotting to make country dysfunctional: Amu

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Tuesday alleged that BNP is hatching a conspiracy to make the country a dysfunctional one.

He made the allegation while addressing a discussion titled, ‘Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s Life and Bangladesh’, in the city.

The Industries Ministry arranged the discussion marking the National Mourning Day at the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation auditorium.

Amu, also a senior Awami League leader, came down hard on BNP for celebrating the birthday of its chairperson Khaleda Zia on August 15, a day when Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated along with most of his family members in 1975.

He said, “The August 15 is a day of celebrations for BNP. However, the history would have been different if Bangabandhu was not killed on the day. Neither Ziaur Rahman could become the President nor BNP was born.”

The minister said the defeated forces of the Liberation War killed Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members as part of a conspiracy to turn Bangladesh a new Pakistan.

Industries Secretary Moinuddin Abdullah, Additional Secretary Farhad Uddin and BCIC Chairman Mansur Ali Sikder, among others, spoke at the function.
