‘BNP nomination seeker found floating in Buriganga’

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Prothom Alo File PhotoA BNP leader from Jashore, who came to Dhaka to seek party nomination, was found dead in Buriganga river on Thursday, four days after he had gone missing.

The victim, Jashore district BNP’s vice-president Abu Bakar Abu, was picked up by law enforcers on Sunday last, alleged party’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press briefing on Thursday night.

And today (Thursday) his body was found floating in Buriganga river, Rizvi told newsmen adding that the murder was executed by a government agency.

The BNP leader also said that Abu, who submitted his nomination form, was staying in a city hotel for being interviewed by the nomination board.

BNP leaders and activists are being abducted every day and thrown away on rivers, canals and roads, he added.

Abu had been elected chairman of a local union council in Jashore four times.

Rizvi also alleged that plainclothesmen detained BNP’s ward No. 20 joint convener, Md Azim. Law enforcers are now refusing that they detained him.

He demanded all BNP leaders and activists be released from jail immediately.
