BNP may fix its council session date Saturday

Khaleda ZiaBNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is going to sit with her party standing committee members on Saturday night to discuss the country’s latest political situation, organisational issues and finalise its national council date, reports news agency UNB.

“The BNP chairperson has convened a meeting of BNP standing committee members for Saturday night,” her media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan told UNB on Friday.

He said the meeting is scheduled to begin at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office at 8:30pm with Khaleda in the chair.

Contacted, a standing committee member, wishing anonymity, said the meeting is expected to discuss the party’s organisational issues as well as the upcoming Union Parishad polls and the country’s political development.

He said the meeting is also likely to discuss the party’s next course of action and finalise the date for holding its national council session.

The BNP leader said they will also discuss with importance what steps their party should take about the debate on the annulment of caretaker government through the judgement on the 13th amendment following Chief Justice SK Sinha’s recent comment that writing and signing any verdict by any judge after retirement is unconstitutional.

BNP reinforced its claim that writing and signing the judgment of the 13th constitutional amendment by ex-Chief Justice Khairul Haque several months after his retirement was not lawful as the current chief Justice Sinha in a message recently said some judges make unusual delays in writing verdicts while others continue to write it even long after their retirement, which goes against the law and the constitution.
