BNP-led alliance calls 72-hr hartal again

Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance called a fresh spell of 72-hour general strike across the country from 6:00am Sunday to be coupled with ongoing nationwide non-stop transport blockade.
In a press statement, signed by BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, the shutdown was announced on Saturday noon.
Salahuddin accused that the government is conspiring to let Khaleda die of starvation as the authorities are intercepting food supplies to the Gulshan office where she has been staying. The strike is meant for registering a protest against that.
The other reason to call the strike is a demand for holding free and fair election under a non-partisan government, protesting killing of so many of the leaders and activists of BNP-led alliance in the name of crossfires and mass arrest, the statement said.
The new spell of hartal has been called amid ongoing Secondary School Certificate and equivalent examinations. The students are facing frequent change in exam schedules.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia had enforced the indefinite blockade across the country since January 6 as the government did not allow her party and its allies to hold protest rallies in the capital on January 5.
