A Dhaka court also rejected the bail petitions filed by the detainees

A Dhaka court has placed BNP Executive Committee member Nipun Roy Chowdhury and six other activists of the party on remand in a case filed over the recent clash between BNP men and police in front of the party office.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder issued the order on Friday after hearing a remand please placed by Inspector Md Kamrul Islam of the Detective Branch of police, also the investigation officer in the case.

Inspector Kamrul had sought a 10-day remand for the detainees.

The other BNP detainees who were placed on remand are: Arifa Sultana Ruma, Yousuf Mridha, Abul Hasim, Amir Hossain, Md. Mohshin and Md. Mamunur Rashid.

The court also rejected the bail petitions filed by Defence Counsel Md Sanaullah Miah.

Nipun, daughter of BNP Vice-Chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhury, was picked up by the detectives from Kakrail, Dhaka on Thursday evening in a case filed over the violent clash between police and BNP activists that took place in front of the party’s central office in Naya Paltan, Dhaka on Wednesday, the third day of BNP’s nomination sale for the 11th general election.

At least 50 people, including 23 policemen, were injured in the clash.

Popular singer Baby Nazneen was also detained with Nipun on Thursday, but she was let go later.
