BNP leader Hannan Shah passes away

BNP standing committee member ASM Hannan Shah died at a hospital in Singapore early Tuesday at the age of 77, said BNP chairperson’s media wing member Shamsuddin Didar.

BNP assistant office secretary Saiful Islam Tipu quoting family source said Hannan Shah breathed his last at 5:37am Singapore time (3:37am Bangladeshi time) at Raffles Heart Centre in Singapore.

Earlier, he was admitted at the Combined Military Hospital with heart problems on September 6. He was kept under life-support at the Intensive Care Unit of the CMH, but was finally flown away to Singapore for better treatment.

 

He left behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.

 

Hannan Shah, a retired Army officer, was the Textile and Jute Minister after BNP assumed power in 2001.

The body will be taken back home tomorrow after the completion of all formalities there, he added.
