BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Wednesday demanded the trial of the masterminds of the 1/11 political changeover in 2007.
Speaking at a discussion, he said, “The Prime Minister are now saying to some ruling party leaders that those who wrote lies against politicians during the 1/11 regime should be tried.”
“We want to clearly state that we first want the trial of those who unfairly sent many politicians, including the two top ladders, (Hasina and Khaleda) to jail, and conspired to leave out the two leaders,” he added.
Mosharraf, a BNP standing committee member, also said after the trial of the masterminds of the 1/11, those who wrote supporting the illegal regime at that time can also be tried.
Jatiyatabadi Muktijuddher Projonmo arranged the discussion at the Jatiya Press Club.
Recently, in a talk show, The Daily Star editor Mahfuz Anam admitted that running reports on Sheikh Hasina based on information fed by DGFI without scrutiny was his biggest mistake.
Leaders of ruling party and its associate bodies have started filing cases against him following his confessional statement about running stories in his newspaper against Sheikh Hasina based on information provided by DGFI.
About the issue, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a programme on Monday said Mahfuz Anam should quit after his confession if he has a little bit of self-dignity.
She also said if the editors were involved in the conspiracy of prolonging their [then military-backed govt] power by killing democracy, obstructing the democratic rights of people then you will be tried one day like the trial of war criminals.]
Mosharraf said action should be taken against those who took the country on the brink of destruction by unconstitutionally governing it, maligned politicians and advocated for de-politicisation during the 1/11 regime.
The BNP leader said though AL leaders had raised their voices in parliament after 2008 national election demanding the trial of the architects of the 1/11, they later stopped it reportedly “following the Prime Minister’s instruction”.
Speaking at the programme, BNP chairperson’s adviser Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury questioned how the ruling party demand the trial of Mahfuz Anam when it’s governing the country as a result of the 1/11 changeover.
