BNP hopeful for talks till last moment: Fakhrul

BNP hopeful for dialogue

Main opposition BNP would remain hopeful about a dialogue over polls-time government till the last moment, the party’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today.

“BNP believes in handing over of power through election. But the whole process is uncertain at present,” Fakhrul said while talking to reporters at BNP’s Nayapaltan head office in the capital.

He strongly criticised the prime minister and the state minister for law for their allegation that BNP had involvement with the February 2009 Pilkhana carnage.

“It’s a big lie,” he retorted, adding that the PM and state minister were now putting the blame on BNP with certain purpose.

About the government initiative to bring back BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman from London, he said the government has lost its confidence on public. “So, they are taking such initiative to divert people’s attention.”

Citing a survey conducted by The Daily Star recently, Fakhrul said the survey proved that BNP is gaining popularity day by day.
