‘We think the government is showing obstinacy over her treatment as part of its evil plan’

BNP claimed on monday that the government is not allowing party chief Khaleda Zia to receive treatment at the United Hospital because it has “ulterior motives.”

“A patient must be given the right to receive treatment where she or he wants, as it is a matter of life and death. Our leader Khaleda Zia thinks she will get proper treatment at the United Hospital. But why does the government want to send her to a different place?” asked BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Speaking at a press conference at the BNP’s Naya Paltan central office, he further said: “We think the government is showing obstinacy over her treatment as part of its evil plan. Our leader never bowed to any blueprint in the past, and won’t in the future as well.”

Rizvi added that it was important that the BNP chief received treatment at United Hospital as the hospital has all the modern equipment and facilities needed to conduct necessary health tests, such as MRIs and CT scans.

The BNP leader also criticized Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader for his comment that Khaleda Zia was getting the best possible facilities in jail, claiming that it was a “false statement.”

Rizvi alleged that Obaidul was making confusing statements to deprive Khaleda Zia of proper treatment, and questioned why the BNP chairperson was not being allowed to receive treatment at a private hospital when Awami League President Sheikh Hasina was treated at Square Hospital after the 1/11 political changeover, when she had been in a sub-jail.

He also claimed that BNP Standing Committee member Moudud Ahmed was confined to his house by police in Noakhali’s Companiganj on Eid day at the behest of the Awami League general secretary. “We condemn the incident.”

In addition, Rizvi criticized Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed for his remark that Khaleda Zia wished to receive treatment at United Hospital in order to go abroad. “It is an imaginary remark and Awami League leaders are the champions of making cooked-up stories.”

The BNP leader alleged it was Sheikh Hasina, not Khaleda Zia, who had a history of going abroad from jail in the name of treatment.
