BNP denies having relation with Israel

Announces two-day demonstrations for false cases against Khaleda

Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Friday denied ever having any relation with Israel.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came up with the denial at a press conference the party central office at Nayapaltan in Dhaka against the backdrop of recent newspaper reports that BNP joint secretary general Aslam Chowhdury had a secret meeting with an agent of Israel intel ligence Mossad in India.
He also announced demonstration for Sunday and Monday to protest at the filing of ‘false’ cases ‘one after another’ against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
He made the statements reading out decisions made by the party standing committee meeting chaired by Khaleda Zia on Monday.
He announced that the party would hold demonstrations in district Headquarters and metropolitan cities except Dhaka on Sunday and in Dhaka city on Monday.
Asked about execution Motiur Rahman Nizami, the amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, a key ally of BNP, for war crimes, Fakhrul said that BNP always stated that the party was in favour of the trial of war criminals but the trial should be fair, transparent and without politically motivated.
Fakhrul said that the party demanded a fair and neutral investigation into the allegation that prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeeb Wazed Joy had $300 million in his bank account in the United States as ‘mentioned in a charge sheet submitted to a US court.’
He said that the standing committee meeting condemned the arrest of journalist Shafik Rehman and mental torture on him in custody implicating him in false case of plotting abduction and killing of Joy.
He said the party also condemned the remand of detained acting Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman in custody in the case.
Fakhrul said that some newspapers reported that BNP had a relation with Mossad.
He said that BNP had no relation with Israel and had total support to Palestine’s right to sovereignty.
He said BNP always spoke in favour of the rights of Palestine and also at the United Nations and in other forums and had always registered protest against Israeli aggression on Palestine people.
Fakhrul said that BNP did not believe in any conspiracy and believed in going to state power only through election.
Asked about BNP joint secretary general Aslam Chowhdury’s meeting with Mossad, Fakhrul said that BNP had no involvement in such incident and Aslam had gone to India on a personal visit.
He said that negative reports on BNP’s nominations in elections to union parishads, formation of national executive committee and organisational matters were being published in a planned way for the past few days by some dailies and television channels.
He said the party standing committee meeting thought that a vested quarter belonged to the government was carrying out the propaganda to tarnish BNP’s image and confuse the party leaders and activists.
BNP leaders Mirza Abbas, Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf, Selima Rahman, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, among others, were present.
