BNP demands punishment of Samiul killers

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Wednesday strongly denounced the brutal killing of 13-year-old boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajan in Sylhet and demanded the government immediately arrest his killers and mete out exemplary punishment to them.

In a statement, the party also urged the government to take lawful actions against Jalalabad officer-in-charge and others for misbehaving with Rajan’s father and helping one of the killers flee abroad.

“The cruel killing of 13-year-old boy Rajan has stunned the entire nation. We can’t summon worth words to protest and condemn the barbaric and atrocious murder incident,” the party said.

The statement signed by party spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon further said, “The incident has hurt us and pricked our conscience. It’s also exposed how humanity has been at stake due to the intolerance of the state and society.”

The teenage boy, Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajan, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in sadar upazila, was brutally tortured to death over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the city on July 8.

He died of internal bleeding following the torture, said the autopsy report.

The killers themselves took the video footage of the incident and uploaded it on the internet. The video clip went viral on social networking site Facebook and video-sharing site Youtube which caused an outcry.

Jalalabad police filed a case against four people, including Muhit, his brother Quamrul Islam, 24, their associate, Ali Haider alias Ali, 34, and guard Moyna Mia alias Boro Moyna, 45, in this connection.

A total of five people have so far been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder.
