The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Saturday claimed that the attack on Santal community and killing of ‘four Santals by police and ruling Awami League goons’ in Gaibandha reminded people of the ‘genocide’ in the country committed by Pakistanis.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a statement also demanded trial of perpetrators of the attack and killings through an immediate judicial inquiry.
He alleged that people believed that the dreadful incident of Gaibandha was staged at the directive of local Awami League lawmaker and upazila chairman.
Fakhrul said that killing people by police and making people homeless unleashing attacks, vandalising houses and setting them on fire by the government of an independent country were unthinkable.
Such attacks on minorities had always been occurred during the period of Awami League government, Fakhrul said, adding that it was only possible for Awami League to attack various religious communities prattling on about secularism.
Life, property and dignity of religious minorities are in the face of extreme threat now, Fakhrul said. – See more at: http://www.newagebd.net/article/2681/bnp-demands-judicial-inquiry-into-attacks-on-santals#sthash.yCdYEQ6P.dpuf
