BNP candidates barred in UP polls: Rizvi

BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged the government and the Election Commission are acting in collusion with each other like twins, aiming at rendering the upcoming union council elections an instance of rigging.

He brought the allegation at a press conference at the central office the Bangladesh Nationalist Party at Naya Paltan in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.

The BNP leader alleged that many of his party candidates are being barred from submitting nomination papers, and even their papers are being torn up. The candidates came under attack, and were not allowed to submit nomination papers at several unions.

The unions are – all unions in Chitalmari upazila and Baroipara union of Bagerhat; sadar union and Raripar union of Kachua upazila; Mollarhat, Rana Poisha and Phulkathi unions of Nalchhiti upazila; the sadar union and another five unions of Terakhada upazila of Khulna; Jugikhali, Sonabaria, Koila and Keralkata unions; and Jainsha union of Sirajdikhan upozila.
