The BNP-led 20-party alliance has called another 72-hour countrywide hartal starting 6:00am Sunday.
The hartal, which ends at 6:00pm on Wednesday, has been called demanding release of its leaders and activists, including its joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed.
BNP joint secretary general Barkatullah called the general strike in a statement on Saturday.
“The BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed has not been released or brought to the court even after 11 days of his arrest. The government is yet to admit his arrest as well …. Therefore, there is no other way than continuing the ongoing movement,” the statement read.
The statement claimed that former organising secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Anisur Rahman Talukder, faced the same fate as Salahuddin Ahmed.
The opposition leaders and activists are being detained and abducted by the law enforcers while people are also being killed in ‘gunfight’ and harassed in the remand, the statement alleged.
