BNP calls for engaging army in relief distribution to Rohingyas

Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Sunday called for engaging military in relief distribution to Rohingyas who entered Bangladesh fleeing persecution in Myanmar in recent time.

The party once again asked the government to immediately convene meeting of all political parties to tackle the big challenge of Rohingya crisis.

Addressing a news briefing at the party central office,  convener of BNP’s national committee for  relief and assistance to Rohingyas, Mirza Abbas called for deploying army in Rohingyas camps for distributing local and  foreign relief and donations among Rohingyas refugees and their rehabilitation.

Mirza Abbas, BNP standing committee member, who along with the party’s other leaders recently went to Cox’s Bazar with 22 truckloads of relief, described the government’s obstruction in distributing the relief among the Rohingyas.

He said around 2,500 sacks of their relief were distributed while rest of the reliefs were unloaded from the trucks.

Abbas said they have received allegations of extortion from Rohingyas by ruling Awami League men.

He alleged that BNP men including a local Union Parishad chairman of the party in Cox’s Bazar were arrested and jailed after they distributed relief to Rohingyas.

At the briefing BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the government to immediately convene a meeting at national level with all political parties and engaged all people to face the big challenge of Rohingya crisis.

He said national unity is required to face the crisis nationally.

Fakhrul urged his counterpart of Awami League to emphasise  on it without  mudslinging  to each other.
