BNP blames AL men for ‘gun attack’ on Khaleda’s office

News - BNP blames AL men for ‘gun attack’ on Khaleda’s office
Denouncing Sunday night’s firing of gunshots at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office, opposition BNP on Monday blamed the ruling party ‘cadres’ for the incident.
“Awami League cadres riding three motorcycles opened fire at the opposition leader’s Gulshan office and sped away. This proves there’s no rule of law in the country. It’s jungle out there. We strongly condemn the incident,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The BNP spokesperson brought the allegation at a rally held in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office protesting the ‘gun attack’ on Khaleda’s Gulshan office.
Demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the attack, the BNP leader, on behalf of his party, declared countrywide demonstrations for April 4 protesting the incident.
Mentioning that the government ministers are branding BNP as a terrorist party, Fakhrul said, “It’s a false allegation. We want to say Awami League was always involved in terrorist activities and killing people.”
“We think the attack on BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office is tantamount to attack on democracy. It’s an attack on common people’s rights. People will build up a strong resistance against it,” the BNP leader said.
Earlier, on Sunday night, unidentified bike-riding youths fired gunshots while passing by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office. However, no one was injured in the incident.
Claiming that the opposition’s ongoing movement has spread to every corner of the country, Fakhrul said the government has lost ground from beneath its feet.
Meanwhile, there vehicles, including one of private television channel ATN News, were torched near the BNP office just moments after Fakhrul concluded his address asking the party leaders and activists to peacefully return to their homes.
Besides, another two vehicles — one of Massranga Television and another of Boishakhi Television — were also vandalised in the area at that time apart from explosions of several crude bomb blasts.
Unlike the other day, there was no police action after the vehicle torching and bomb blasts.
The law enforcers, however, detained a youth suspecting his involvement in incident.
