BNP: Arms haul verdict a conspiracy

BNP Joint Secretary thanks party members for their contributions in agitation programmes

The BNP has deemed the verdict on the 10-truck arms haul case, that sentenced its two former ministers to death, a grave conspiracy.

BNP Joint Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the statement while expressing his party’s reaction over the verdict at the party’s Nayapaltan offices on Friday morning, a day after he was released from jail.

He said: “The verdict was a part of grave conspiracy against the BNP-led 19-party alliance.”

Claiming that the convicted party members were not involved with such misdeeds, he said: “The verdict has been delivered against those who have busted the arms consignment.”

While talking about the party’s recent agitation programmes, he said: “Our movement was against the one-party rule that the Hasina-led Awami League government has established in the country.”

“Our demonstration was for the people of the country,” he added.

Claiming that the BNP has staged continuous demonstrations in order to reestablish the democracy in the country, Rizvi said: “We fought for restoring good governance in the country.”

He thanked the leaders and activists of the party for playing courageous roles during the recent agitation programmes.

The High Court has granted six months bail to BNP Joint Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in three separate violence-related cases on Monday.

Later on Thursday night, he was released from the Dhaka Central Jail.
