BIWTA’s new ship ‘Madhumati’ to take to the water July 14

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will flag it off through a video conference on the day, the shipping ministry said in a statement on Monday.

A total of 750 passengers can travel at a time in the two-storey ship that is 75 metres long and 12 metres wide.

Western Marine Company built the ship under the supervision of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).

The cost was Tk 265.9 million, the statement said.

It said ‘Madhumati’ would have four VIP family suites for luxury travel.

The vessel also has 18 first-class single family suites, 34 first-class double cabins, four first-class single cabins and 42 second-class chair.
