Biman plans US, Canada flights

Biman

Minister for Civil Aviation Muhammad Faruk Khan said on Wednesday that Bangladesh had signed an MOU with Canada.

Earlier, on Aug 17, Bangladesh had signed an open sky agreement with the USA.

But Biman has to wait a while to resume its New York flights, closed since 2006, because a team of US experts will check security measures at several airports before the green light is shown.

A Bangladesh delegation will be in Canada in the last week of September to finalize the agreement with that country, Faruk Khan said.

“Once that is through, we will be able to start flights to Canada. Three passenger aircraft and three cargo aircraft will operate.”

The New York Flight will resume soon after two newly purchased Boeing aircraft arrive, he added.

Biman sources say the two Boing 777s will be added to the airline fleet in February and March. Biman has named them ‘Akash Prodip’ and ‘Ranga Provat’.
