Bhutanese PM due on Dec 6

The Bhutanese premier is to meet with President Abdul Hamid as well during the visit

Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay will arrive in Dhaka on December 6 at the invitation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali made the disclosure while briefing journalists on Monday.

It would be his maiden visit to Bangladesh after taking office as the prime minister of Bhutan in July last year, the minister said.

The Bhutanese premier will lead a 10-member delegation including a number of ministers and a high-powered trade team.

During his two-day official visit, the Bhutanese PM will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Different bilateral issues, including power and hydro-electricity management, agriculture, trade and business, health, education and connectivity are expected to be discussed.

The foreign minister informed the journalists that there is a possibility of renewal of the existing bilateral trade agreement between Dhaka and Thimphu during the visit.

The Bhutanese premier will also meet President Abdul Hamid.

Apart from a number of ministers, leaders of the opposition in the parliament and some eminent personalities will make courtesy calls on the Bhutanese PM.

Tobgay is scheduled to leave Dhaka on December 8 for home.
