News - Better Hasina can go to Pakistan or neihgbouring country: BNP
In a scathing attack on the Prime Minister for asking the opposition leader to go to Pakistan, BNP spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said it is better for Sheikh Hasina to leave the country again as she has the habit of going aboard under pressure.

“I think, if anyone needs to go abroad or to Pakistan and its adjacent countries, the Prime Minister can again try to go there as she has that habit. There’s no question for Desh Netri (Khaleda) to go outside the country,” he told a press briefing.

The press briefing was arranged at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office to brief reporters about the 36-hour nationwide shutdown enforced by the 18-party opposition alliance that ended at 6pm today.

Addressing a discussion meeting on Wednesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the real face of the opposition leader has now got exposed before the country… stop killing and torching vehicles, power stations and public property. “Go to your (Khaleda’s) ‘Peyara Pakistan’, you’ll feel good there.”

Describing the Prime Minister’s remarks as anti-democratic, unguarded and indecent, Fakhrul, also the BNP acting secretary general, alleged that the ruling party leaders and even the Prime Minister have continued such verbal attacks on the opposition leader breaching all sorts of political etiquette.

“This country belongs to all of us. Khaleda Zia is the wife of Ziaur Rahman who had proclaimed the country’s democracy. She had been in an uncompromised movement against autocratic regime since 1982 to establish democracy,” he said.

Fakhrul recalled that Sheikh Hasina had gone out of the country on parole bowing down to the pressure of Fakhruddin-Moyeenuddin regime. But, he said, his leader Khaleda had not left the country and endured the huge pressure and repression on her sons by the then administration.
