Bangladesh’s achievements in eight major MDGs have been highly lauded in the Asia Pacific Parliamentarian and CSO Forum on MDG Acceleration concluded in Bali on Wednesday, said Information Minster Hasanul Haq Inu.

Adoption of Bangladesh’s proposals on the eradication of violence against women, the implementation of eco-friendly sustainable digital development and the eradication of terrorism in the Post-2015 Development Agenda of the forum added to Bangladesh’s achievements, he said.

The Information Minister said this while talking to reporters at Shahjalal International Airport on his return on Wednesday night.

Inu led a six-member Bangladesh delegation to the two-day conference organised by United Nations Millennium Campaign (UNMC) and the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD), and co-hosted by the House of People’s Representatives of Indonesia.

He said: “We spoke for all developing countries which are struggling to attain the Millennium Development Goals set for them. Many of the countries couldn’t achieve the targets as Bangladesh did so far. And we proposed the issues of environment-friendly development and peace in society, which are the keys to progress. We are very happy to have them adopted in the forum declaration.”

Inu chaired the session on Sustainable Development in the forum in the capacity of Chairperson of All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Food, Agriculture and Rural Development of Bangladesh Parliament.

He also attended the meeting of the High Level Panel of Eminent Persons (HLPEP) on Post-2015 Development Agenda held on the sidelines of the Parliamentarian and Civil Society Organisations (CSO) forum.

Tarana Halim, MP, Sanjida Khatun MP, Dr Akram Hossain Chowdhury, MP were the members of Parliamentary delegation and Secretary General of All Party Parliamentary Group Shishir Shil, Rashida K Chowdhury and Kazi Kholiquzzaman represented the Civil Society Organisations from Bangladesh to the Bali forum.
