The Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Saturday it was eagerly waiting for their Sri Lankan coach Chandika Hathurusinghe to return before making final decision regarding his replacement.
The chairman of BCB’s cricket operations committee Akram Khan said Hathurusinghe was likely to return within two to three days to settle his scores after an unexpected resignation in October.
‘Our CEO [Chief Executive Officer] informed me that he would come in two to three days. If he comes then we’ll discuss everything with him,’ Akram told reporters.
‘We’ve heard so many things about him. While some said he will be the coach of Sri Lanka other suggested he would be staying in Australia. There is also a speculation he is not willing to continue here due to his family problem.
‘Once he comes back we will request him to stay as long as he can. We can’t make any decision without talking to him,’ added Akram.
Akram claimed that they were yet to start talks with others regarding the coaching issue and it would take time to find a proper coach unless the Sri Lankan changed his decision.
‘We are yet to discuss the issue with the others as we’re still trying to negotiate with our coach. Hathurusinghe will come here and after the discussion with him, we will finalise our decision.
‘It may take some time to find a new coach if he doesn’t stay with us but we’re hopeful that we’ll be able to get a great coach for us,’ he said.
Bangladesh face a race against time to settle the issue as they are scheduled to host a tri-series one-day international tournament involving Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in December-January before playing a bilateral series against the Islanders at home.
