A Bangladeshi man has been killed and two others sustained bullet injuries after Indian Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire along the India-Bangladesh border in Lalmonirhat.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sources say the early Thursday incident took place inside the Indian territory.

A cattle smuggler was shot dead by a Jailpaiguri BSF-100 battalion patrol and two others were arrested for trespass, the sources added.

The BGB sources could not confirm the victim’s identity.

Lalmonirhat BGB-15 Battalion Commander Lt Colonel Golam Morshed confirmed the shooting incident.

“We have lodged a strong protest with our Indian counterparts and called for a flag meeting over the incident,” he told the Dhaka Tribune.
