Bangladesh-Turkey relations rooted in history: PM

The outgoing Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh M Vakur Erkul made a farewell call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office in the capital on Thursday.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, PM Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said that the prime minister appreciated the ambassador’s active contribution in improving the overall bilateral relations, particularly in bilateral trade and commerce, and Turkish investment in Bangladesh.

During the meeting, Hasina said that the relations between the two countries are rooted in history.

Mentioning the influence of Turkish culture on Bangladesh’s literature, culture and religion, she said National Poet of Bangladesh Kazi Nazrul Islam wrote inspiring poems on Mustafa Kamal Ataturk, who was the revolutionary leader and the first president of Turkey.

Ambassador at Large M Ziauddin, PMO Secretary Molla Waheeduzzaman and Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad were, among others, present on the occasion.
