Customs intelligence officials yesterday seized 118 cartons of voice over internet protocol (VoIP) equipment from the cargo village area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The equipment were shipped from Hong Kong under the false declaration of computer accessories for M/S Sadia Trading in the capital, said Moinul Khan, director general of Customs Intelligence, at a press briefing at its headquarters in Kakrail.

As the cartons, shipped in on August 10, were unclaimed at the cargo hall, customs intelligence officials seized the goods.

The officials opened the cartons yesterday morning in presence of other agencies working at the airport and found the equipment worth around Tk 10 crore, said Moinul.

The mentioned address of the importer was found fake.

A three-member probe team, led by Customs Intelligence Joint Director Shafiur Rahman, was formed to investigate the matter. It has been asked to submit its report within 15 working days.

Moinul said they were investigating whether any employees and organisation working in the airport were involved.
