Consul of Hajj Jahirul Islam said on Sunday Md Abul Kashem, 45, from Chittagong, was missing since Friday’s disaster.

Dr Fizir Hyat Khan, who heads the Bangladesh medical team there, told bdnews24.com on Sunday that he along with representatives of the agency, which arranged Kashem’s pilgrimage, confirmed the identity of the deceased on Saturday.

He added they visited all the hospitals in Makkah where the injured were being treated.

Dr Khan said most Bangladeshi pilgrims were released from hospital by then. Only two were being treated at Zayed Hospital and Sheesha Hospital.

“It was our good fortune that our pilgrims were not on the side where the crane crashed down. The victims are mostly Indonesians,” Khan said.

The foreign ministry in a statement said Kashem’s body was at Al Moaisim mortuary in Makkah.

It identified the only injured Bangladeshi still under treatment in a hospital as Nizam Uddin from Chittagong.

At least 107 pilgrims died and 238 more, including 40 Bangladeshis, were wounded when a crane crashed into the Grand Mosque.
