Bangladesh are through with a match to spare in the qualifiers, edging Chinese Taipei on head-to-head records, whose three wins and one defeat mean they sit second in the group standings.

The top four teams of the last tournament – North Korea, China, Japan and Thailand – have directly qualified for this edition. They will be joined by the four group champions from the qualifiers.

Bangladesh had swept past Iran 3-0 and sunken Singapore 5-0 before hitting Kyrgyzstan for 10 in their last match.

They will take on the United Arab Emirates in their last outing on Monday morning.

The Chinese Taipei went ahead in the 11th minute when captain Su Yu Hsuan’s superb strike from the edge of the box found the back of net, much to the annoyance of the home crowd.

But Bangladesh dominated the proceedings from then on with their possession play on the muddy surface at the Bangabandhu National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.

They did not have to wait long and were rewarded for putting constant pressure in the Chinese Taipei box with a penalty when Krishna Rani was brought down by Chen Chiao Yi.  The foul led to a second yellow card and her marching orders.

Defender Shamsunnahar converted the spot kick to restore parity in the 28th minute before she put Bangladesh ahead from another penalty 11 minutes later.

The home side kept pressing for more goals after the break and captain Krishna netted the third goal from the edge of the six-yard area.

Chinese Taipei’s chances of a comeback looked bleak when Marzia’s corner deflected off a defender and rolled past the goal-line in the 79th minute.

Wu You Jou cut the deficit by scoring Chinese Taipei’s second goal in the 88th.

They were reduced to nine players when defender Teng Pei-Lin was sent off for her second yellow in the 90th minute.
