Bangladesh assures of continual support for Palestine

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali has reaffirmed the unwavering commitment to the Palestinian people for their struggle for an independent homeland.

He made the assertion while he met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas during a stopover meeting at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka in the early hours of Sunday.

Abbas was briefing him on the updates of the Israeli atrocities on Palestinian people and longstanding impasse on the way to peace process, reports BSS.

During the meeting, the Palestinian president termed Bangladesh as an “unflinching proponent” of Palestinian just causes.

Mahmoud Abbas expressed deep gratitude of the people and the government of Palestine to Bangladesh for its continued support and assistance to Palestine.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on different bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest when Bangladesh’s foreign minister conveyed greetings from President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the Palestinian president.

Mahmood Ali said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is always vocal in the UN, OIC, NAM and other international forums in support of Palestinian causes.

Mahmood Ali has urged world leaders to take “urgent and meaningful initiatives” to resolve the Palestine issue as he reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of Bangladesh to the Palestinian people for their struggle for an independent homeland.

Mahmoud Abbas also expressed sincere thanks for offering opportunities of higher studies for a good number of students as well as training of armed forces members of Palestine in Bangladesh.

At the meeting, Bangladesh foreign minister extended an invitation to the Palestinian President and also to his Palestinian counterpart to pay bilateral visits to Bangladesh to witness the enormous goodwill of the people of Bangladesh for Palestine.

The Palestinian president made a stopover at the airport early Sunday (from 12:35am-2:30am) on his way to Japan as part of his three-nation South Asia tour.

President Mahmoud Abbas, with his delegation, left Dhaka for Tokyo at 2:30am.
