.bangla domain registration to begin from Dec 16

Tarana Halim has said on Tuesday that the registration of dot bangla(.bangla) internet domain is set to start from this year’s December 16.

This will be a user-level registration, the State Minister for Post and Telecommunications of Bangladesh added.

Tarana Halim made this announcement while her press briefing on the registration process. She announced that the domain will commence on the Victory Day of Bangladesh(December 16)

The Government received a letter on October 5 from ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) where the clarification of the label of this IDN (Internationalised Domain Name).

Internet labels like this are known as the recognition of a particular state, so the Unicode domanin label dot bangla (.bangla) or in Bangla fonts (.বাংলা) only represents and belongs to Bangladesh.

Notably, Bangladesh has another ICANN-approved domain label besides this- dot bd (.bd).

Earlier, Tarana Halim said that terming the winning of .bangla domain as another milestone for identity and stated it as one more achievement of Bangla language after the endorsement of February 21 as the International Mother Language Day.

Tarana then said Bangladesh has won the right to use the domain after overcoming a long procedural fight, and added that the Posts and Telecommunications Division (PTD) had a significant role in it.
