The Cabinet on Monday in its regular meeting approved a proposal for signing an agreement for exemption visa requirement of the officials and diplomatic passport holders of Brazil and Bangladesh.
Cabinet secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan briefed reporters after the meeting held at the Cabinet division at the Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
He said the proposal was approved in pursuit to the Article-7 of the ‘Technical Cooperation Agreement’ between Bangladesh and Brazil.
Earlier, Dhaka and Rio de Janeiro agreed in principle to sign an agreement for the exemption of visa requirement for officials and diplomats.
It proposed that official and diplomatic passport holders of both the countries could stay without visa in each other countries for 30 days or use the lands for transit to visit another country.
Musharraf Hossain said that the visa exemption agreement would strengthen relations between Bangladesh and the Latin American country.
Brazil is an emerging economic power and member of transnational economic forum BRICS.
Today’s cabinet also approved a proposal for ratifying the visa exemption facility between Bangladesh and Cambodia for official and diplomatic passport holders.
Bangladesh now has visa waiving agreements with 12 countries and discussion is going on with 11 other counties for such agreement.
