03-26

Bangladesh footballers will get a chance to redeem themselves when they play in group A of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup alongside holders Malaysia and two South Asian rivals Nepal and Sri Lanka.
The draw of the eight-team tournament, which gets underway on January 8, was held at a city hotel on Tuesday.
Shamsul Huda Stadium in Jessore will host four matches of the tournament while the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka will host the rests.
The other group of the tournament features Maldives, Cambodia, Bahrain and Bangladesh U-23.
Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, also the chairman of the organising committee of the tournament, unveiled the draw. The organisers of the tournament said the grouping was originally settled during the AFC Award Night in Delhi in November where representatives of all participating countries attended.
Like the previous edition, Malaysia and Bahrain are not sending their
first team and will play rather as Malaysia XI and Bahrain football team.
Maldives, Nepal, Sri
Lanka and Cambodia, however, agreed to send their national team, said the officials.
‘Win or defeat is not a matter rather it is necessary to take the initiatives. You must get the results sometimes if you keep up taking initiatives, said Muhith.
BFF president Kazi Salahuddin hoped that the country will take a festive mood through this tournament.
Salahuddin said they were planning to hold some matches of the tournament tin Sylhet  and Chittagong but had to abandon the idea due to ICC Under-19 World Cup.
