Attacking the media is an unforgivable offence, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said on Thursday.

“The attacker whoever he is, a minister or a parliamentarian, must face the court,” Inu told reporters after attending a working session with deputy commissioners at Secretariat.

He was replying to a question when journalists sought his comments about the government stance on ruling party MP Golam Maula Rony, who was arrested on Wednesday for assaulting two Independent TV journalists.

“A lawmaker’s (Rony) appearance before the court reflects the government’s respect toward the mass media,” he added.

About the 8th wage board for journalists, the minister said the government would publish a gazette in this regard as soon as possible.

Rony was arrested from Baridhara in the capital on Wednesday shortly after a Dhaka court rejected his bail petition and issued his arrest order for beating up the two journalists on Saturday.
