32 BNP members have been sent to jail in this case

Two convicted fugitives surrendered in Pabna on Tuesday, in a case filed for attacking Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 1994, who was then the opposition leader.

The two who surrendered are: Moklesur Rahman Bablu, former BNP mayor and president of Ishwardi municipality, and BNP leader Abdul Hakim Tenu.

They surrendered to the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Rustom Ali. With this, a total of 32 leaders and activists of BNP have been sent to jail in this widely discussed case.

The court set Wednesday as the date for the verdict, confirmed court sources.

Then opposition leader and current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was going from Khulna through Ishwardi to Syedpur for party programs on September 23 of 1994. Suddenly the train was fired upon and a bomb was thrown at it just before the train entered Ishwardi Railway Junction around evening time. A charge sheet was filed against 52 people after further investigation of this matter. Five people have already died of the 52 in the last 25 years. 15 others are still in hiding.

Crude bombs were hurled and bullets fired, targeting the train when Hasina was still inside the train with her supporters.
