‘At least 1.5m people affected by floods’
About 1.5 million people in 15 districts have been affected by floods across the country, according to the National Disaster Response Coordination Centre (NDRCC).
The districts mostly hit by the floods are Chattogram, Sunamganj, Sylhet, Gaibandha, Kurigram and Lalmonirhat.
NDRCC also reported that two children were killed in floods in Chattogram — one in Chandanaish and another in Fatikchhari upazila. Besides, a woman and her daughter died in landslide in the district, too.
Sangu river was flowing 100 cm above the danger level in Chattogram’s Dohajari and 40 cm above in Bandarban.
Two people remained missing in Ruma upazila of Bandarban. Three people including a child were killed in lightning in Sunamganj and Kalmakanda upazila of Netrakona while a person remained missing in Sylhet.
A total of 452,325 people have been affected by floods in Chattogram since 5 July. Some 143 unions of 14 upazila have been affected and 672 houses damaged completely and 9,085 partially.
In Bandarban, a total of 100 houses of five upazila have been damaged in floods. The road communication between Bandarban and Chattogram remained snapped.
As many as 40,380 have been affected by floods in 108 villages of four upazilas in Khagrachhari.
Kaptai, Naniarchar, Kawkhali and Baghaichhari upazilas of Rangamati have been inundated in flood water. Around 6,000 people of 10 upazilas have been affected in the district.
In Cox’s Bazar, a total of 41,280 people have been affected while embankment stretching over 2.50 kilometers was damaged.
In Lalmonirhat, some 9,096 families in 17 unions have been affected. In Nilphamari, some 27,520 people have been affected in Dimla and Jaldhaka upazilas.
As many as 104,000 people of 7 upazilas of Sunamganj have been affected by floods. Some 1,385 hectares of farmland were damaged.
Surma River was flowing 79 cm above the danger level in the district.
Incessant rains and onrush of upstream water caused flood in Shomeswari river basin in Netrokona. The river was flowing 65 cm above the danger level in Netrokona’s Kolmakanda upazila at 9:00am Monday.
Three upazilas of the district have so far been flooded.
A total of 12 upazilas of Sylhet district have been affected by the flood as the Surma, Kushiara, Manu, Khoai and local rivers are flowing above the danger level in many points.
As many as 296,335 people have been affected by flood in the district’s 12 upazilas. Some 1,015 houses were completely damaged and a total of 5,396 more homesteads were partially damaged by the flood.
Heavy rainfall caused flood in 98 villages of Bogura district.
As many as 66,800 people were affected while 8,603 hectares of farmland were inundated by the floods.
Four out of 7 upazilas of Gaibandha were affected by the floods as Jamuna river was flowing 106 cm above the danger level in Fulchhari upazila.
A total of 166,446 people were affected in the district.
The authorities have opened 95 shelter centres in the district while 11,250 people have taken shelter in 22 shelter houses.
A twenty-meter embankment was broken in Moulvibazar’s Kamalganj upazila. The authorities are working on repairing the embankment.
Two union parishads of Nabiganj upazila in Habiganj were inundated, affecting 1100 families.
In Kurigram, Dharla river was flowing 108 cm above the red level and the Brahmaputra river above 102 cm in Chilmari.
A total of 289,920 people were marooned and 899 hectares of farm land was inundated in the district while 1,031 families were affected by river erosion.
The authorities have opened 21 shelter centers where 850 families have taken shelter.
Two educational institutes were completely damaged while 275 partially damaged due to rain.
