ASM Feroz appointed chief whip

Five whips have also been appointed

ASM Feroz has been appointed as the chief whip in the 10th parliament.

Feroz, MP from Patuakhali 2, was a whip in the ninth parliament.

The Parliament Secretariat published a gazette notification on Friday appointing the chief whip and five whips, Parliament Secretary Ashraful Moqbul told the Dhaka Tribune.

The newly appointed whips are — Iqbalur Rahim (Dinajpur 3), Atiur Rahman Atik (Sherpur 1), Shahiduzzaman Sarkar (Naogaon 2), Mohammad Shahab Uddin (Moulvibazar 1) and Soleman Haque Joarder (Chuadanga 1).

The first session of the 10th parliament will begin on Jan 29.

The 10th general elections were held on January 5 amid the boycott of the then main opposition BNP.

The Awami League has secured absolute majority in the 10th parliament by bagging 232 seats – 105 contested and 127 uncontested.

The Jatiya Party has become the second largest party in the parliament bagging 33 seats – 13 contested and 20 uncontested.
