The High Court on Sunday asked the IGP, SP and OC at Sathia thana, Pabna to arrest within 24 hours the perpetrators attacked and vandalised the property of the Hindu community at Bangram on Saturday and submit report on compliance.

After browsing the newspaper report published on Sunday over the incident, an HC division bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul-Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain passed the order.

A group of Muslims on Saturday went on a rampage at Bangram village in Sathia upazila attacking and looting the houses and shops of Hindu community members following reported derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (SM) and the holy Quran by a school-going Hindu boy on a Facebook page.

The HC also asked the government to immediately deploy law enforcers at the places of occurrences to protect the Hindu minorities and assess the loss of property through forming three-member enquiry committee.

Following the HC order, Pabna local administration formed a three-member enquiry committee, headed by additional district magistrate Munshi Munirruzzaman, to investigate Saturday’s mayhem.

Two other members of the committee are additional police super Mustain and magistrate Mahfuzul Alam Masum.

Besides, Babul Shaha, father of the Hindu boy Rajib Shaha who allegedly instigated the violence, lodged a case with Ataikula Police Station in connection with the incident.

Police arrested one person suspecting his involvement in the incident.
