Ansarullah chief, 2 more held over Avijit, Ananta murder: Rab

Three members of Ansarullah Bangla Team including its chief in Dhaka have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the killing of bloggers Ananta Bijoy Das and Avijit Roy, claims Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).

Acting on a tip-off, the Rab-3 members raided the Fakirapool area around 5:00am and arrested the three including Abul Bashar, chief of the banned Islamist outfit, said the elite force in a press release.

The other arrestees were identified as the outfit’s media wing staff Julhas Biswas and Jafran Al Hasan.

During primary interrogation, the arrestees disclosed that two people -Ramzan and Naeem were directly involved in the killing of bloggers Ananta Bijoy Das and Avijit Roy, the press release said.

Efforts to arrest the duo is going on, Rab said in the press release.

Blogger Ananta Bijoy Das was killed by assailants at Subid Bazar in Sylhet city on May 12 while Avijit Roy was hacked to death in front of the Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on February 26 this year.
