Another fake rice saline-making factory busted in city; 5 punished

 

A Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) mobile court on Monday unearthed another factory producing fake rice saline of icddr,b at North Badda in the city.

 

The mobile court also sentenced the fake factory owner, his younger brother and three employees to different terms of imprisonment.

 

Earlier on March 20, a Rab-10 mobile court busted another fake rice saline producing factory at a building near Mitford Babu Bazar Bridge in old Dhaka.

 

During the raid, factory owner Obaidur Rahman alias Palash, 36, and his worker Himel Fakir, 16, had been awarded simple jail.

 

Aided by a team of Rab-1, the mobile court, led by its executive magistrate AHM Anwar Pasha, raided  10 Abdullahbagh of Satarkul in North Badda at about 10am today and caught red-handed five people, including its owner, while putting rice saline in packets using level of icddr,b as the manufacturer on them.

 

The arrested people are owner Siddique, 35, his brother Nabin, 26, and employees Kabir Hossain, 26, Md Swapan, 22, and Masud Akand, 30.

 

Later, the mobile court jailed Siddique for two years and Nabin for one year. They were also fined Tk 1 lakh each, in default, to suffer three months more in jail.

 

The three employees were fined Tk 10,000 each, in default, to serve one month in prison.

 

During preliminary interrogation, Siddique revealed that he was an employee of International Centre for Diarrhoeal Diseases Research Bangladesh (icddr,b).

 

He started the illegal businesses of manufacturing fake saline after leaving his previous job one year ago, he said, adding that his brother Nabin had been marketing the fake rice saline at a reduced rate.
