Annisul: Most billboards illegal

Around two-thirds of the billboards installed around Dhaka North are illegal and will be removed immediately, said Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Annisul Huq.

The newly elected mayor, backed by
the ruling Awami League, made the state-ment during his visit to four DNCC wards yesterday.

He was accompanied by the ward councillors as well as DNCC Chief Exicutive Officer BM Enamul Haque, Chief Engineer Brig Gen Md Gazi Firoj Rahman, Chief Health Officer Brig Gen KM Masud Ahsan, Chief Waste Management Officer Bipon Kumar Saha and several other officials on the visit.

Visiting wards 15, 18, 19 and 20, Annisul inspected the conditions of several parks, waste management in the areas, mosquito control, roads, drainage and sewerage systems, street lights, footpaths and kitchen markets.

“The sewerage system in Gulshan is in a very poor condition and needs to be fixed immediately. We have shared our concern with Dhaka Wasa and urged them to take the necessary steps to do so,” Annisul told reporters.

He further said the city corporation had asked the authorities concerned to arrange land for waste transfer stations because the number of such stations in Dhaka North was insufficient.

During Annisul’s visit, locals spoke to the mayor about their problems and the lack of proper service from the city corporation, demanding immediate solution to their new mayor.

Listening to their pleas, Annisul asked the officials concerned of the respective departments to take steps to resolve the problems immediately.

A day earlier, Annisul visited wards 2, 3, 5 and 6 where he assured the locals of swiftly resolving their problems.

  1. Mr Anisul Haq would be well advised not to touch the illegal hoardings bcz these are planted by AJL & BCL boys. Plenty of other subjects in DNCC need his attention, where he can work instead of picking fight with “sonar chele-ra”.

He has to learn the “art of compromise” to survive.
