Muslims in Bangladesh will celebrate the occasion on Friday if the new Shawwal moon is sighted on Thursday.

An Islamic Foundation media statement said the main congregation will be held at 8:30am on the Eid day (Friday).

If the weather is inclement, the main congregation will be held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 9am.

Four more Eid congregation will be held at the mosque, it added.

People from all walks of lives including Cabinet members, justices, diplomat and politicians will join the congregation, like the previous years.

State Minister for Religious Affairs Shajahan Mia visited the spot on Thursday morning and said, “The Eidgah is in better shape now than before. All preparations are complete.”

Dhaka city corporation (South) officials, who are supervising the management, claimed at least 84,000 people will be able join the Eid prayer together at the National Eidgah.

They said separate space will be there for VIPs and women.

Rapid Action Battalion and Police have put in place adequate measures there to ensure safety and security of the people attending the prayer there.

DMP Commissioner Benazir Ahmed and RAB chief Moklesur Rahman have already conducted inspections.

Ahmed said, “We have taken special security measure to ensure proper Eid prayers at 300 places in Dhaka including the National Eidgah.”
