Police arrested two suspected drug-peddlers, including the son of an Awami League lawmaker from Rajshahi city today.
Mustaq Ahmed Tulu, 27, son of Meraj Uddin Mollah, AL lawmaker from Rajshahi-3 constituency, and his friend Mamunur Rashid, 26, were held with seven pieces of yaba tablets, quoting Hafizur Rahman, officer in-charge of Shah Makhdum Police Station, reports our Rajshahi correspondent.
Acting on a tip-off, police detained the duo from Aam Chattar area of the city while they were carrying the tablets as samples to buyers, the OC added.
Police later presented them to the chief metropolitan magistrate court with seven-day remand prayers.
The court set Sunday to hold a hearing on the remand prayer.
Two years ago, Tulu was detained by law enforcers while carrying phensedyl to Dhaka in a truck.
But law enforcers had to release him due to influence from the lawmaker, a senior police official said.
