AL itself responsible for Bangabandhu killing: Rab

The president of a faction of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, ASM Abdur Rab, alleged on Tuesday that Bangladesh Awami League itself is responsible for the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“The remarks of Syed Ashraful Islam are unacceptable, unjust and unwarranted. Awami League itself is responsible for the killing of Bangabandhu,” said ASM Rab in a press statement.

The president of this faction, which is known as JSD, issued the statement following the remarks of AL general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam in which he said the ideology bearers of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, aka Jasad,–a left-leaning political party based on socialist philosophy-are 100 per cent hypocrites.

In an oblique reference to the information minister, Hasanul Haque Inu, who leads a faction of Jasad, Syed Ashraf at a Bangladesh Chhatra League conference on Monday also said the ruling Awami League will have to pay the heavy price for making minister from Jasad.

In his statement, ASM Rab alleged the AL had gradually pushed Bangabandhu towards the death by making him isolated from the people.
“It is the AL which formed the government immediately after the killing of Bangabandhu and AL people took oath as ministers keeping Bangabandhu’s body at Dhanmondi 32,” alleged the Jasad leader.

Hasanul Haque, meanwhile, made a call to all concerned to stop mudslinging over the issue.

“Sheikh Hasina and AL took the decision of forging an alliance with Jasad after necessary deliberations of the events before and after the 1975 killing,” said the minister of Sheikh Hasina-led government.

Inu was talking to newsmen after a programme in Jhenaidah on Tuesday.

In a separate press statement, the third faction of Jasad which is led by Sharif Nurul Ambia also criticised the AL general secretary for his remarks.

“Some people like Ashraf are accusing Jasad of creating a context for the killing of Bangabandhu at a time when we are trying to forge a greater unity against secret killings, militancy and terrorism,” read the statement.

The statement termed Ashraf’s remarks “untimely, confusing and embarrassing for Jasad activists.”
