  1. That the present govt or rather the ruling party did not use the army for their interest may be true; but most people including the ‘shushil samaj’ say they used the military ruler HM Ershad for their interest more than once. All may be true but the most unfortunate event that almost broke the spine of the army and destroyed the paramilitary BDR has happened at the advent of the ruling party. Maybe the present govt may have to be accountable to history for the failure to save the brilliant 57 officers of the armed forces.

  2. True AL does not use Armed forces. Rather Armed forces have used an willing and self-seeking AL on a number of occasions. Here is a little history:

    1. 1975: Army stages a bloody coup and part of AL gives continuity and legitimacy to the change over;
    2. 1986: Ershad attempts civiliaization of his military rule by forming a new political party – Jatio Party – and calls for a stage managed election where support and participation of the credible political parties become crucial. BNP refuses, AL led by Hasina goes through the back door and participates in the election. As expected Ershad won, Hasina became the Leader of opposition, allowing Ershad to contune for another five years before a strong mass movement led by BNP and later, joined by AL as well, dislodges Ershad and brings democracy in the country.
    3. 2007: A military backed puppet care taker government takes over, BNP refuses to recognize, AL led by Hasina welcomes. In 2009, a stage managed election is held, AL returns with two third majority.

    Currently even though AL government does not use Army (it does not have to as through BDR massacre and other acts of premature dismissals of competent officers, AL has completely muted the army) but it uses other armed forces – police, RAB and BGB – to control and repress opposition

    There you are, I rest my case!

    • I totally agree with ADK. Also adding to his historic listing, I would like to remind you all that in 1981 when Ershad grabbed power from the democratically elected Sattar government, Sk Hasina said, “I am not unhappy”.
