.Terming the movement of the new opposition coalition already successful in view of ‘public response’, convenor of ‘National Unity Process’ Kamal Hossaini on Sunday said the Awami League is doing the opposite of what they demanded.

“Instead of releasing [political] prisoners. the government is implicating thousands of opposition leaders and activists in fictitious cases,” he said while addressing a human chain in front of the National Press Club.

The Unty Process organised the programme demanding restoration of voting rights, especially formation of an election-time neutral government for ensuring free and fair elections.

Rejecting the attitude of the regime, Kamal Hossain said, “The country belongs to all, not any individual, party and family”.

The reputed jurist expressed his conviction that no autocratic government could deprive the people of their rights, if a greater unity is forged, reports UNB.

Kamal Hossain, also president of Gano Forum, said the people will be deprived of their ownership of the country if the election is not held in a fair and credible manner. “With the feeling, we’re making efforts to unite people and getting overwhelming response from people.”

After floating the platform of the National Unity Process, he has tied up with the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party with the common demand for holding free and fair elections and change the country’s political culture.

Kamal alleged that thousands of millions of taka were plundered from banks and siphoned off as the people have lost their ownership of the country.

He voiced concern that there has been no investment, new industries and factories and employment generation under the current government.

“We must bring a change through forging a unity. We’re demanding a credible election to bring the change. We think there’s no alternative to a free, fair and neutral election to bring a change (in power) through a legal way.”

He expressed his firm belief that the people’s united movement to ensure a fair and credible election will be successful.

He urged the country’s 160 million people to get united for waging a strong movement to establish that the country belongs to all, not to any individual, party and family.” We’ll surely be able to make our movement a success like in the past, and restore people’s ownership of the country.”
