Pacer Al-Amin Hossain on Wednesday said that he was trying to learn from his previous mistakes and wanted to cement his place in the Bangladesh national team in all three formats of the game.

Al-Amin was recalled to the Bangladesh one-day international squad for the first two of three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, scheduled from March 1 in Sylhet, after a gap of over four years.

The 30-year old, who played his last ODI of his 14-match career back in 2015 against Zimbabwe, wanted to exploit the new challenge to revive his career in this format.

‘The time when I started my career, if I could continue that, I could be well-established by this time. I had a decent gap by this time. But still I tried my best,’ Al-Amin told reporters in Mirpur.

‘Now I got an opportunity and I am trying to utilise the opportunity. I got the chance in Twenty20s and Tests and both went well for me. Now if I got another chance [in ODI], I will try to do well,’ he added.

Al-Amin lamented his previous disciplinary actions which he believed played a big part for his irregular place in the national team and was determined not to repeat those mistakes.

Al-Amin was a regular member of the Bangladesh limited-over squad till the 2015 ICC World Cup but his breaching of disciplinary rules forced the Bangladesh Cricket Board send him home midway through the tournament.

‘I believe that I never got dropped from the team for my performance. I am trying to recover from the issues. I should have changed myself. The team management will remain the same. Now my position in the team will depend how much preparation I have taken,’ he said.

Al-Amin’s realisation came at a time when he was fined 50 per cent of his match fee for fined using abusive language and inappropriate body gesture towards a dismissed batsman during the BCL final.

BCB handed down the fine on South Zone’s Al-Amin after he used abusive language towards East Zone’s Mohammad Ashraful once he dismissed the former national captain batsman.

Al-Amin, who claimed only one wicket in BCL final, said he was trying to perform more than what he performed three to four years back in order to cement his place.

‘When I get an opportunity, I try to give even a better performance…people learn from their previous mistakes. It can be disciplinary issues…But there is no end of learning,’ he added.
