ACC grills BNP leader Mosharraf’s wife

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday interrogated BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain’s wife in a money-laundering case filed against him on February 6 last.

ACC investigation officer and deputy director Ahsan Ali questioned Bilkis Akhter Hossain, wife of Mosharraf, for two hours from 10 am at the ACC head office, said an ACC official.

After the interrogation, Bilkis told reporters that she appeared at the Commission responding to its notice and gave her statement before it.

On March 24 last, the anti-graft body sent a notice to Bilkis asking her to be present at the ACC head office today (March 8) to face questioning.

On February 6, the ACC filed the case against former Health Minister Mosharraf for reportedly laundering over Tk 9.54 crore to the United Kingdom.

According to the first information report (FIR), Mosharraf laundered British pound of about 8.04 lakh (nearly Tk 9.54 crore) to the United Kingdom when he was the Health and Family Welfare Minister during 2001-2006.

The ACC found that a fixed term deposit of about 8.04 lakh British pound was deposited in a joint account (AC 108492) of Dr Mosharraf and his wife Bilkis Akter Hossain at Lloyds TSB Offshore Private Banking, Guernsey.

Mosharraf was arrested on March 12 in connection with the graft.
